NEW VERSIONS OF VERSATERM AND VERSATERM-PRO SUPPORT COMMTOOLBOX
Reading, PA, December 18, 1989 -- Synergy Software today began shipping new
versions of the popular VersaTerm and VersaTerm-PRO, Macintosh terminal
emulation and communications software applications.
Both VersaTerm 4.1 and VersaTerm-PRO 3.1 now support Apple's new Communications
Toolbox as well as adding DEC VT220 text terminal emulation.
An installation disk is provided that allows Macintosh users with System 6.0.2
or later to add the Communications Toolbox software. VersaTerm and
VersaTerm-PRO fully support the Connection and File Transfer Managers of the
Communications Toolbox. By simply 'dropping-in' Connection Tools and File
Transfer Tools provided by Apple and other 3rd Party Vendors, VersaTerm and
VersaTerm-PRO can now connect to new networks/protocols that weren't accessible
before; they can also support new file transfer protocols that are not already
built-in.
DEC VT220 text terminal emulation is now fully supported, including:
downloadable characters sets, host definable function keys, 7-bit and 8-bit
operation, double-high double-wide characters, protected fields, selective
erase and the DEC Multinational character set.
"Our corporate users will particularly appreciate these new features."
commented Lonnie Abelbeck, VersaTerm developer and president of Abelbeck
Software. "The Communications Toolbox provides Macintosh users with a very
rich software foundation when it comes to connectivity solutions, and we are
pleased to be the first to take advantage of these new functions with VersaTerm
and VersaTerm-PRO."
Additional new features include: pop-up soft keyboard support for simulating
the Apple Extended keyboard, the DEC VT220 keyboard and the Data General D200
keyboard; special support for the Mac Portable's keyboard; additional host text
printing commands; improved ANSI color support and added ANSI graphics
character set support.
Updates from previous, registered versions are available for $20. Retail
prices remain unchanged at $149 for VersaTerm 4.1, and $295 for VersaTerm-PRO
3.1.
Synergy Software is a leading source of Macintosh terminal
emulation/communications and data analysis/graphics applications. Its products
have been sold through a worldwide network of distributors and dealers since
1985.
